GE MWF Water Filter

GE MWF Water Filter

Water Filter

If you have a GE refrigerator like I do you have noticed over the last few years that the GE MWF Water Filter prices have been climbing. I've shopped around at Lowe's and Home Depot and found that Amazon has the lowest prices.

The GE MWF Refrigerator Water Filter needs no special tools to replace. Simply turn the filter to the left and remove it. You don't even have to turn the water off! A check valve stops the water flow for the GE MWF Filter and prevents leaks.

All you need to do is insert the new filter and turn to the right. It's as simple as that!

This MWF filter works with a wide-range of GE and Hotpoint models and should be replaced every six months. An adapter may be needed if you have the following filters: FXRC, FXRT, MXRC, HXRT, WR97X10006, and Kenmore 46-9905.

This MWF Water Filter meets NSF / ANSI standard 42 for the reduction of

• 97.0% of Chlorine

• 99.14% of Particulates Class I

This MWF refrigerator filter meets NSF / ANSI standard 53 for the reduction of

• 98.54% of Turbidity

• 99.6% of Asbestos

• 99.3% of Lead

• 98.78% of Carbofuran

• > 99.99% of Cysts

• 99.78% of 1,4 dichlorobenzene

• 96.51% of Benzene

• 94.7% of Mercury

• 99.34% or Alachlor

• 93.44% of Toxaphene

• 99.34% or Alachlor

• 94.22% of Atrazine

• 99% of Lindane

• 98.32% of 2, 4-D

You can take the filter right out of the box, unscrew the old one and screw in the new one, fill up two large glasses of water to "flush it" and you are ready to go. No more than five minutes of work! What could be simpler.

Cleaning Tap Water With a Homemade Water Filter

Cleaning Tap Water With a Homemade Water Filter

Water Filter

Many people say that the tap water all over the world it is not safe for drinking. They I right. Research studies conducted all over the world show that the water contains harmful chemicals.

Even in the major cities in the States the water can not be drank safely.

I had to reconsider my option of drinking tap water. It is not safe. Then I did a market study and saw the prices on the water. I was scared when I saw the result. A family that buys bottled water to drink spends around 3000 dollars a year just for that. I decided to look for other ways to get safe and clean water.

If it was possible, a less expensive way to do that. After a short period of time I discovered that using a tap water filter helps me eliminate the dangerous bacteria and debris from the water. The filter even eliminates the heavy metals and the parasites. But still, many of the filters were expensive and even hard to use. I had a problem. Some filters are so accurate about cleaning the water that they even remove some good minerals in the tap water.

And that can damage our health. The recent studies have clearly shown that the lack of minerals in the water can cause many and serious diseases.

This is the reason why you need to know what the filter at your home does precisely. If yours removes 95% of the heavy metals in the water, don't use it. It will eliminate the good minerals also. I wish this article has provided you with some helpful information on how to deal with the problem of having safe water.

Make HydroBromic Acid

Make HydroBromic Acid Video Clips.

How to make HydroBromic Acid. Potassium bromide (240g.) is dissolved in water (400ml.) in a beaker, and the beaker is cooled in ice or in a bath of cold water. Concentrated sulphuric acid (180ml.) is then slowly added. Care must be taken that the temperature does not rise above 75 degrees otherwise a little bromine may be formed. The solution is cooled to room temperature and the potassium bisulphate, which has separated, is removed by filtration through a hardened filter paper in a Buchner funnel. The filtrate is distilled from a litre distilling flask, and the fraction bp 124-127 is collected; this contains traces of sulphate. Pure constant boiling point hydrobromic acid is obtained by redistillation from a little barium bromide. The yield is about 285g. or 85%. of the theoretical.

Which Water Purification Systems Are Best? - A Comparison of the Three Most Common Technologies

Which Water Purification Systems Are Best? - A Comparison of the Three Most Common Technologies

Water Filter

Fresh water is essential to our health and comfort. Not only do we rely on it to stay hydrated, we use it in many other ways including bathing, cleaning and cooking food, and laundering our clothes. Fresh water has long been a concern of both public communities and private individuals, and several different water purification systems and treatment technologies have been developed to help ensure that tap water is safe for human consumption. But how do these different technologies compare?

Whether you get your water from a well or a city system, water sources can become contaminated by bacteria, runoff, and improper treatment. Even if water isn't contaminated, it may contain iron and other hard minerals that cause discoloration and can build up in the body, or chlorine that leaves an unpleasant odor and taste. Consequently, many people choose to treat or filter their water to improve flavor and protect against contaminants.

Chlorine is commonly used by municipal water treatment plants and is effective in killing many different bacteria. However, it is not effective against some organisms such as Cryposporidium and Giardia. Both of these organisms can be found in lakes, rivers, and ground water and can cause serious intestinal illness.

As mentioned, many people feel that chlorine leaves an unpleasant taste and smell. In addition, there have been numerous cases where the city water supply became contaminated despite the fact that it was treated. People with city water supplies often use other water purifiers and home water filters to ensure that their water is pure and tastes good. The three most common options are carbon filters, reverse osmosis water filters, and ultraviolet light water purification.

Each of these technologies uses a different approach to treat water, and they each have different levels of effectiveness against various contaminants. One may work well to remove chemicals but be completely ineffective against bacteria, and vice versa.

In reality, there is no single filter or treatment that will eliminate every contaminant from your water. The best approach is to have your water tested for contaminants and then purchase a home water purifier that guards against the particular contaminants that cause you concern.

Another option is to combine treatment technologies. Most higher-end systems use a combination of carbon filters and one of the other treatment technologies to achieve the best results. Let's look at the different technologies to see where each is effective.

Carbon Filters

Carbon is one of the most powerful absorbents available and it has been used for many years as a means of removing impurities. The absorbing powers of carbon can be further enhanced by adding a slightly positive electrical charge. This is known as activated carbon, and it is used in many standard home water filters. As the water passes over the positively charged carbon, the negative ions of the contaminants are drawn to the surface of the carbon granules and removed from the water.

Activated carbon filters typically use granular activated carbon (GAC) or powdered block carbon. Both work well for filtering and purifying but carbon block filters have been shown to remove more contaminants. Either type of activated carbon filters help reduce or remove a wide variety of contaminants, including:

o volatile organic chemicals (VOCs)
o pesticides and herbicides
o chlorine, radon, and other chemicals often found in tap water.

All of this protection comes in a relatively inexpensive package. You can purchase carbon filter systems that fit on your faucet for about , or you can choose a whole house water purification system that utilizes carbon filter technology for around 0.

However, unless they are densely compacted, most carbon block filters are not effective at removing heavy metals or bacteria. For this reason, many people consider combining carbon filters with one of the other types of water purification systems.

Reverse Osmosis Water Filters

Reverse osmosis, also known as hyperfiltration or ultra-filtration, was developed with U.S. government funding as a means of desalinating ocean water. A reverse osmosis water purifier uses a semi-permeable membrane that allows pure water to pass through it, while contaminants are trapped by the tiny pores in the membrane.

The process requires that the water be pressurized to help force it through the membrane. Most standard residential water systems have sufficient pressure. Like activated carbon filters, reverse osmosis also uses charged particles to help filter out impurities.

The effectiveness of a reverse osmosis water purifier depends on the density of the membrane. A membrane with larger pores will obviously let larger impurities pass through. It is also important that the membrane be cleaned regularly for proper functioning.

Higher quality reverse osmosis water filters use a process known as crossflow to allow the membrane to continually clean itself. Crossflow directs some of the water downstream from the membrane, sweeping the rejected contaminants away so they do not build up and block the membrane.

There are two types of membranes commonly used in reverse osmosis water filters --Thin Film Composite (TFC) and Cellulose Triacetate (CTA). TFC membranes are noticeably more effective the CTA membranes but they tend to be less resistant to the deteriorating effects of chlorine. This problem can be avoided by using an activated carbon pre-filter to remove the chlorine first.
Reverse osmosis water purifiers come in different sizes and styles including countertop and whole house water purification systems. They are capable of filtering out a long list of contaminants including:

o chlorine and other treatment related products
o bacteria
o salts, sugars, proteins
o dyes
o heavy metals

One drawback of reverse osmosis water filters is that they are more expensive than carbon filter treatment systems, with the average home system costing around 0. Also, the purification process is usually somewhat slow due to the use of pressurized water. It can take an entire day to produce 15 gallons of purified water. And a typical reverse osmosis water purifier may need up to 8 gallons of untreated water to generate a single gallon of purified water.

UV Water Purification

As the name implies, ultraviolet light water purification systems use ultraviolet (UV) light to treat water and render microorganisms harmless. The UV light comes from a high intensity lamp that is usually enclosed in a protective quartz sleeve. When water passes through the water treatment system, the UV light damages the structure of any organisms and makes them sterile.

Although a UV water purifier requires electricity to operate, it draws about the same amount of energy as a light bulb. However, the lamp bulb itself needs to be replaced every year to ensure adequate intensity.

While whole house UV water purification systems are effective on most bacteria, viruses, molds, algae and other organisms, they do not remove chlorine, heavy metals, VOCs, or other chemicals. And countertop UV systems, which expose the water to UV lighting for less time, do not always remove all organisms.

UV water purifiers average around 0 for a whole house system, making them more expensive initially than other types of treatments. In addition, without a pre-filter system, contaminants can build up and reduce the intensity of the UV lamp. For these reasons, many people combine UV water purification systems with carbon filters, which also increases the costs.

As you can see, each of the three common water treatment technologies has its advantages and drawbacks. Deciding which is best depends on your budget and the type of water contaminants you want to remove or prevent. A test of your tap water will help you determine the appropriate water filtration system for your needs.

OMG, THEY ARE GOING TO BURN HIGHLY RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL! Disposal of radioactive debris to go ahead A panel on nuclear waste disposal has decided to allow municipalities to burn highly radioactive debris if they have incinerators that can remove radioactive substances. The panel was set up by the environment ministry. Members of the expert panel made the decision on Sunday. The ministry measured radioactive substances on debris inside Fukushima Prefecture at collection posts, excluding areas such as those in a 20-kilometer radius no-entry zone. It had already decided to allow 10 municipalities where radiation levels are relatively low to resume usual methods of disposal, such as burning and burying. On Sunday the panel discussed ways to dispose of highly radioactive debris in the areas. The participants agreed, in principle, to allow municipalities to burn debris highly contaminated with radioactive substances if their incinerators have filters or electric dust cleaners to remove the substances. The environment ministry will inform these municipalities of the decision by the end of June, after checking the capabilities of each facility. The panel also agreed that the ministry and the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency should measure the radioactivity of debris inside the 20-kilometer radius no-entry-zone and evacuation zones where monitoring has not been conducted. Bangalore-Treating kitchen decay baptize for reuse

Bangalore-Treating kitchen decay baptize for reuse Video Clips.

Waste water emerging from the kitchen sink has high organic material from the food dishes as well as oil and grease from typical Indian cooking. This water can be treated with a simple oil and grease trap and a planted filter for reuse as garden water. Approximately 30 litres of water per person per day is use up in doing the dishes in a typical Indian home. The first thing to do is to trap the oil and grease which can be taken out occasionally and put into a compost heap. The food material is also allowed to settle down and separated from the rest of the water. This remaining water is oxygenated using a small aquarium bubbler. This cost Rs 250/- and is obviously a Chinese make. It also consumes less than a half unit of energy every day. About 100 litres to 120 litres of water can be treated and used to water the pots and the garden. If any water is in excess it can be used to recharge the ground through a small recharge well.

Chlorine Water Filter - What Makes it So Important?

Chlorine Water Filter - What Makes it So Important?

Water Filter

If you are still consuming tap water, I am sure you are not bothered by the bitter taste your water has. Of course you know it has chlorine added in it, but have you ever wondered that apart from bad taste, what other effects does chlorinated water have? Treat this as a warning call. I am sure after reading this, you will understand the need for a good chlorine water filter.

The story started maybe a hundred years back where water borne diseases like cholera and typhoid were at their high. The quick and effective solution to combat such epidemics was to add Chlorine in drinking water. Chlorine as a disinfectant greatly helped in keeping bacteria away from water. So eventually all the water supply companies resorted to this technique for keeping their water reservoirs free from bacteria. But, the story doesn't end here. If Chlorine is intentionally being added, why need a chlorine water filter?

Chlorine which was added as a disinfectant once, later actually proved to be unsafe for human consumption. It is a known fact now. But still , it was and is still being added in water, not because it is the best disinfectant - but for the plain and simple reason that it comes cheap!

Chlorine is actually a harmful chemical which reacts with other organic contaminants like leaves, algae in water and produces various toxic by-products. Chloroform and Trihalomethanes are a few of them. These by-products stimulate the production of free cells in the body which can be serious enough to lead to cancer. They are also known to reduce fertility and cause miscarriage and birth defects.

Apart from consuming chlorine through drinking water, it is important to note that showering in chlorinated water is harmful too. Not only does it cause eye and nose irritations, it also binds with the protective proteins in our skin and hair and strips them off. Thus making your skin and hair rough, dull and susceptible to other problems like skin itchiness, dryness, hair fall, hair color loss etc.

Agreeing to the fact that we cannot do anything to stop chlorine from being supplied to our taps, the least we can do it is to make sure that we filter it from the water. Look for a good chlorine water filter which is capable of removing chlorine as well as various other contaminants present in tap water.

A home chlorine water filter is also a good option. They can be installed on the main pipe from where the water enters your home. Have it installed and be tension free. Water coming out from any of tap in your home will be guaranteed to be safe and free from chlorine.

Be wise and take a step forward, choose a right chlorine water filter and prevent your family from consuming harmful chlorinated water.

Finding the Best Personal Water Filter For Backpacking

Finding the Best Personal Water Filter For Backpacking

Water Filter

People are becoming health conscious everyday and you will find a lot of them are taking to the outdoors. If you are one such person, who loves to go on hikes and treks through the wilderness, this article is for you.

Everyone knows that when in the wild, the most precious object would be fresh drinking water. People end up carrying many gallons of fresh water instead of drinking from the streams and the rivers.

This is to ensure that what they drink is safe and free from contaminants. The alternative is simple. Use a personal filter.

The personal water filter

A personal filter will help reduce the backpack weight. Carrying many gallons is back breaking work. Many people cannot enjoy the hike purely because of the weight they are carrying.

Personal filters will let you enjoy the wild and ensure your safety by purifying your water. A portable filter can weigh as low as two hundred and fifty grams. This is as much weight as a quarter litre. This will help you pack a lot more things if needed and enjoy the hike.

Removing contaminants and pathogens

Fresh water from a stream flowing down from the mountains is said to be very clean. This water, however clean, is not completely free of contaminants. The personal filter in your backpack will ensure you get completely clean and pure fresh drinking water.

Even mountain water contains harmful disease causing pathogens. Some of these include typhoid, dysentery, cholera, cryptosporidium, amoebic dysentery and protozoa among many other different pathogens.

It is the job of the purification plants to ensure your water is safe from these pathogens in your city. There is no such treatment plant in the wild and the personal water filter can be your own personal treatment plant.

There are other contaminants in the mountain as well. These include harmful chemicals that cause the water to develop a very bad odour. There are many other dissolved chemicals that are bad for the body including chlorine and iodine. The personal water filter can help you remove them.

There will be many times when a stream is flowing by and the hiker walks by feeling thirsty. He does not have any fresh water and cannot boil the water either.

Under no circumstances should untreated water be drunk as nobody knows what was present upstream. With the personal water filter, you can filter water in just two minutes and get safe drinking water.

Gopro vs 3 underwater Focus fixes and clarify test

Gopro vs 3 underwater Focus fixes and clarify test Video Clips.

Testing the Gopro HD hero with 3 retail underwater focus fixes, using all modes r1-r5 and photo in NTSC mode. Standard housing, Oculus R5, Eye of Mine and a SRP Blurfix with and without a URpro CY filter. Filmed at Rye pier at 5.1m 16.7ft depth, visibility between 5-10m, water temp 9c on a sunny winters day at Rye pier in Melbourne. Videos untouched and left at the resolution they where filmed at, the red filter videos have had a simple eye dropper auto white balance adjustment to reduce the red tint due to the shallow depth. My conclusions from this test the standard GoPro housing is no good under water as its very blurry. The oculus R5 (very similar to other drop in type fixes like the mako, goforfocus etc) is best used in r5 mode as all other modes have vignetting on the edge of frame. Maybe would have been better if I used a non black background to show this better. It can be seen easier in the 4 window shots how much of the frame is lost compared to the other fixes. The Eye of mine is good in all modes other then r4 and photo where it has some vignetting. Main disadvantage is the fixed plastic design which can be scratched and not easily repaired also very hard to clean the inside of the housing due to the undercut with only a small opening. There's no easy way of installing filters to this housing either. The SRP blurfix is also vignette free in all modes other then r4 and photo similar to the EOM housing, with just a fraction less as the EOM has a slight white ring ...

Filtration - Part 3 - The Corner Filter and the Canister Filter

Filtration - Part 3 - The Corner Filter and the Canister Filter

Water Filter

As a beginner aquarium keeper, one of the first types of mechanical filter that you encounter is probably the trusty old corner filter. The corner filter is inexpensive to purchase compared to many other types of mechanical filters, and also easy to install. The basic corner filter will be a plastic container filled with a filter medium, e.g. foam or floss. An air pump will be used to force water through the filter, thus trapping larger debris. A corner filter will therefore often also function as an aerator for the aquarium.

Be careful when you clean your filter medium and never use hot water or detergents. When you have performed a water change, the discarded water can be used to wash the filter medium since it will have the right temperature, pH etc. The reason why you should handle your filter media so carefully is that it is a great home for beneficial bacteria. If colonies of nitrifying bacteria colonies the filter media, they will perform biological filtration and make it much easier for you to keep the water quality up in your aquarium. Hot water, detergents etc will however kill the bacteria and must therefore be avoided. If you need to replace the filter media, you should ideally leave a part of the old media in the canister filter. This way, the old bacteria can colonies the new filter media.

A downside with the corner filter is that many designs produce a lot of noise. You can of course find good looking corner filters, but a majority of the corner filters are actually quite ugly. If you have messy eaters, the corner filter will be rapidly clogged and require frequent cleaning. The corner filter can also be insufficient for aquariums that require more vigorous filtration.

Canister filter

For aquarium keepers that keep messy eaters or have large aquariums, the basic corner filter is often not enough to keep the water quality up. If you find your self in this situation, you might want to consider the canister filter. This filter is an external filter that is hung outside the aquarium or placed under the aquarium. Today you can also find canister filters that are located inside aquariums (submersible canister filters), but they are much less common than external canister filters. The inside of this filter will typically contain a micron filter cartridge, glass wool or similar types of filter media. Waster is then pumped through the canister filter, and larger debris is caught in the media. This makes the canister filter quite similar to the basic corner filter, only much larger and more powerful. You can also add a wet-dry wheel to your  filter to promote biological filtration.

Just like with the corner filter, you must clean your canister filter frequently to prevent clogging. If the caught debris is left too long in this filter, they will start decomposing and can pollute the water. A negative aspect of the canister filter is of course that it requires a lot of space. A submersible canister filter will take up a lot of space and look ugly inside the aquarium, while an external canister filter will take up a lot of space and look ugly somewhere outside the aquarium. Careful planning can be the solution here; you can for instance hide the external canister filter in a piece of aquarium furniture. Just keep in mind that it must be easy to access the canister filter, since it requires frequent cleaning. Never use soap or hot water when cleaning your filter.

Chlorine Water Filter - Is That All You Need?

Chlorine Water Filter - Is That All You Need?

Water Filter

You know that you need a chlorine water filter, because you can taste it and smell it. But, if a facility uses chloramines to disinfect (or any other method of disinfection) there are other chemicals in your tap water that you cannot see, smell or taste. In addition, public disinfection methods are fairly effective, but there are some microbes that are resistant to them. So, here's what you should actually be looking for.

When chemicals or other measures are taken to kill bacteria, such as e.coli, byproducts commonly referred to as THMs are formed. Researchers have been concerned about our exposure to these chemicals for quite some time. Only recently have we learned that the amount we are normally exposed to in our homes greatly increases our lifetime risk of cancer.

If you need a chlorine water filter, you also need one that removes THMs. The department store varieties (PUR & Brita for examples) do not remove THMs. Public facilities have a maximum contaminant level or (MCL) that they must try to maintain. But the MCLs were created a long time ago...long before any studies were completed comparing the number of cancer cases among people with chlorinated tap-water to the number of cases among people with private wells, requiring no chlorination.

When you look at the studies, you see different results reported by different research groups. How much does THM exposure increase your risk of cancer? Anywhere from 40-200% are the results reported from various studies.

The average chlorine water filter contains carbon granules that trap the chemical through a process called adsorption. Special resins are required to trap THMs, and most companies don't include them in their basic products.

Here's another question for you to think about. Is THM exposure in the shower a threat?

Regulating agencies still maintain that consuming them, by drinking, is the only threat and that the levels present in most publicly treated supplies are safe. Scientific researchers do not agree. They have measured the amount of the chemicals circulating in the blood stream after drinking a liter of unfiltered tap water, and after a 15 minute shower. The levels were higher after the shower.

You see, they become airborne and we inhale them. They are also absorbed through the skin. So, not only do you need a THM and chlorine water filter for the kitchen tap, you need one for the shower as well.

The microbes that are resistant to public disinfection methods are referred to as cysts. They may be present in any supply at any time, but there are particularly high levels during the warmer months of the year. Actually, that's true of all bacteria.

In order for a home purifier to remove cysts, they must filter down to one micron. The only risk is through consumption; they cause waterborne illnesses similar to food poisoning. So, at least you don't have to worry about them in the shower.

There are other things that you should consider when shopping for a chlorine water filter, but now, at least you know the basics. Visit my website to get more important information.

A simple reed system can clean washing machine and bath water enough to grow rice. What better place to do than the roof which in tropical India receives a lot of sunlight. Nutrition for the rice comes from a Ecosan unit on the roof again, which provides the urine for fertilizer. The basics of Manganese Phosphating (Parkerizing) in HD

The basics of Manganese Phosphating (Parkerizing) in HD On YouTube.

This video shows a fairly good breakdown of the process considering I don't have a camera man to help me film. I did leave out a few basic things: 1. Invest in a brand new spray bottle and fill it with Acetone or similar degreaser. If you happen to accidentally get a finger print or drop of sweat on your freshly prepared part, you can spray it off with the acetone. 2. Do not skimp on the metal preparation. With the blasting, make sure you are going for a consistent pressure with your air regulator, and that you are going over all the parts of the metal in a even fashion. 90 percent of the finish you get with ANYTHING you are doing, is going to come down to the preparation of the part to be finished. This applies to anything IE painting, duracoat, metal refinishing, etc. 3. In terms of degreasing, if you are going to opt for a simple green/purple power bath, make SURE THAT YOU WEAR GLOVES WHILE HANDLING THE METAL FROM THAT POINT ON ESPECIALLY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A DEGREASER LIKE ACETONE ON HAND TO FIX YOUR MISTAKES. This is very important. 4. You may want to invest in a basic sweat band to keep drops of sweat from falling on your work. 5. If you are doing multiple pieces, make sure you are changing your water rinsing bath out every hour or so. 6. If you want a very traditional parkerizing like you see on WW2 firearms, opt for a zinc phosphating, then allow the parts to sit in a bath of 20-50W motor oil for about 3 months. If you have access to large quantities of cosmoline ...

Chlorine Water Filter - Avoid the Many Dangers of Chlorine by Using a Home Chlorine Water Filter

Chlorine Water Filter - Avoid the Many Dangers of Chlorine by Using a Home Chlorine Water Filter

Water Filter

Without a chlorine water filter, you are exposing yourself to serious health risk, whether you know it or not. I'm shocked that authorities don't even encourage people to use a chlorine water filter at home. I guess they'd rather have people think that the water they're drinking and bathing in is safe. Here's how serious the problem really is.

The reason public treatment plants use chlorine as a disinfectant is not because it's most effective or safe- they use it because it's cheap! Today our treatment systems use the same technology as they did at the turn of the last century; they filter out all the visible particles and then essentially add bleach to disinfect.

Since chlorination is STANDARD in our water treatment system, it only makes sense that using a chlorine water filter at home should be STANDARD too.

Oh, and by the way, the EPA set the limit as to how much chlorine can be used to disinfect water supplies at 4 parts per million (ppm). On most standard pool kits, they state that swimming in anything above 3ppm is dangerous!

Recent studies have shown that there is a significant association between cancer and chlorinated water. In fact, the U.S. Council of Environmental Quality stated that "Cancer risk among people using chlorinated water is as much as 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine". And women with breast cancer have been shown to contain 50%-60% more chlorinated byproducts (THMs) in their fat tissue than women without cancer.

Most people think that drinking chlorinated water is bad, but showering in it is even worse! As the matter of fact, more than 2/3 of of the harmful effects of chlorinated water are experienced from the inhalation and absorption of it. When taking a hot shower, chlorine molecules are vaporized and pumped into the air you breath even before the water hits the bottom of the shower. There's even more reason to buy a chlorine water filter for your shower than for your faucet!

Here's the whole thing about chlorinating our water supplies: This chemical is used as a disinfectant to KILL bacteria, parasites, and other water-borne diseases. For the simple fact that it's used to KILL anything should mean that we shouldn't be consuming it, whether we drink it, cook with it, or shower in it. But since it's needed to protect us from dangerous bacteria and parasites, a home chlorine water filter is the only way to keep your water safe enough to consume.

I just find it odd that only 2 decades after we started using chlorine as a prevalent disinfectant and after we started using synthetic chemicals heavily that the current spike in cancer started. Back in the early 1900s, 1 in 50 people eventually had cancer in their life. Today though, 1 in 3 people have cancer at some point in their life. If only owning a chlorine water filter was mandatory!

In conclusion, do yourself and your family a favor and install a chlorine water filter in your home. For maximum protection against the dangers of chlorine, get both a faucet and shower filtration unit. It doesn't have to be that expensive either. In our home, we use top of the line systems that remove 99% of all chlorine and other contaminants, and it only costs us pennies a day to assure that all the water we drink and shower in is pure, safe, and healthy.

Pedal Pump

Pedal Pump On YouTube.

Around the world communities struggle with access to their most important commodity -- water. When you're not plugged into the grid, providing water becomes a daily survival challenge. But we don't have to be plugged in to pump. Instead of relying on fuel-burning generators or resource-consuming infrastructure, we can get water with human power. The Pedal Pump is a portable and versatile water pump for off-grid applications. I built the pump using salvaged materials and off-the-shelf plumbing parts to make it easy for anyone to duplicate with minimal tools. The core of the pump is a piston and cylinder from a small air-cooled engine -- in this case a lawnmower -- paired with the crank arms and pedals from an old bicycle. With each stroke the piston pulls water up through a one-way valve, into the cylinder, and out another one-way valve. And with leg power instead of a hand pump, you can pump a lot longer. The pump could provide drinking water from a well, pump from a river for irrigation during the dry season, and remove water from flooded buildings during the rainy season. There it is -- a simple pedal-powered water pump with great potential. Globally, water is our most valuable resource, and for many communities the availability of water determines survival. When we innovate, we live.
